Utah’s State Tree

Blue spruce

The blue spruce is mostly closely associated with Colorado. But neighboring Utah adopted it as the state tree on February 20, 1933.

I have no details about its adoption, but the blue spruce is beloved for its beauty. It is especially popular as a Christmas tree.

Blue spruces occur in the Wasatch and Uinta mountains at elevations between 6,000 and 11,000 feet. With its silvery blue foliage, the blue spruce has been widely exported as a hardy ornamental tree able to withstand temperature extremes.
