Indian blanket was adopted as Oklahoma’s state flower on May 7, 1986. Dr. Dayle (or Doyle?) McCoy, a former biology teacher at several Oklahoma schools, lobbied for the Indian blanket. The bill was sponsored by Kelly Haney and Billie Floyd. Then representative Haney was a Seminole Indian artist.
Oklahoma is also represented by mistletoe (the official floral emblem) and the Oklahoma rose (the official flower).
