Iwate’s Prefectural Tree

Japanese red pine

The Japanese red pine was adopted by Iwate, Okayama and Yamaguchi. The Nambu red pine, as it’s called in Iwate, is usually seen in hilly areas. It was chosen in a public vote coordinated by Mainichi newspaper on September 26 (“the forty-first year of Showa” and “the year of the world fair in Japan”).
