Georgia’s State Tree

Live oak

Pines are mentioned in Georgia’s state song, Georgia on My Mind. But the live oak was adopted in 1937. It was requested by the Edmund Burke Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The live oak flourishes along Georgia’s coastal plain and on offshore islands. Enormous live oaks with moss-draped branches are among the South’s most enchanting sights.
