Fukui shares its official tree with Ehime Prefecture, along with the Central American nation of Honduras and the states of Arkansas and North Carolina. However, the pines that grow in Fukui are a little different from tropical American pines.
According to the prefectural website, “It is said that the neatness and the powerful life of these trees that grow strongly on the rocky cliffs and in the sand are a symbol of the character of the citizens of Fukui.”
