Aomori’s Prefectural Tree

Hiba arborvitae

Aomori and Ishikawa both chose as their official tree a little known member of the cedar family sometimes called a Hiba cedar, deerhorn cedar or elkhorn cedar. I have learned no details of its adoption, but it is one of the “Five sacred Trees of Kiso” in Japan.
