The public was also involved in choosing the beautiful copper pheasant as Akita’s prefectural bird in 1972. Named for the male’s metallic coppery-red plumage, the beautiful copper pheasant is a bird of coniferous and mixed forests.
Akita shares its official bird with Gunma and Miyazaki.
