Aichi’s Prefectural Tree

Japanese red maple

The Japanese red maple is a rare cousin of the abundant North American red maple. Native only to Japan, its range is apparently more or less limited to the Chubu area around Aichi prefecture.

It was chosen as the official tree in 1966.
